Described as a role model, motivator, and a leader who is caring and humble in his every encounter, it is with the utmost pride that we congratulate Kylan Beech on being awarded a 2020 Student Citizenship Award from the South Australia Branch, Order of Australia Association.
Kylan, a 2020 Year 12 Graduate, was recognised across a number of categories including demonstrating pride in Australian Citizenship, showing initiative and concern for the advancement and wellbeing of others in need or disadvantage, leadership and influence of peers as well as showing significant benefit to both the school and wider community.
Giving freely of his time as a young adult, he engages in volunteering, fundraising, coaching and officiating through local organisations such as St Vinnies, the Cancer Council SA, local parish, as well as SANFL and various local football clubs as well as providing strong school community relationships through peer support and mentoring.
Earlier in the year, Kylan arranged a fundraiser for Cancer Council SA, and raised in in excess of $30,000 in honour of his mother, Tammy-Lee, who passed away 4 years earlier. Shaving his head for the Mary Potter Hospice, encouraging his House to collect the most food cans for the St Vinnies Can Drive, and raising house spirit through his fun, humorous and engaging leadership style has set Kylan apart from his peers.
Through his involvement, leadership and participation in the Europe History Trip in 2019 and Nazareths’ Belgium Exchange program, Kylan’s ability to bond with students and share the unique qualities of our Australian culture with those abroad and those visiting Australia was highlighted. Kylan has an innate nature to care and consistently includes people that may be seen ‘on the outer’. His contributions to support the marginalised through his work for Vinnies and the Cancer Council of SA are to be highly commended.
Kylan is a remarkable young man who remains highly regarded by the Nazareth Catholic Community and by his peers. In particular his humorous, caring and empathy nature and manner towards those who are less fortunate is a significant trait Kylan is most admired for. People who come into contact with Kylan seem most comfortable in his company and he rewards their loyalty with wonderful spirit and trust. Kylan is a true leader in every sense of the word and a significant strength of his lies in his ability to inspire others, remain upbeat and his insatiable appetite to positively affect the whole mood of those he works with. Kylan is a gifted and likeable person and displays all the qualities that will enamour him as a model citizen and one of which Nazareth Catholic Community is very proud of.
