Bathurst Island

Fostering a deeper relationship with God, through engaging, life-giving experiences.

An alternative to "Schoolies"

Each year a group of Year 12 students chose to travel to Bathurst Island to participate in an outreach program, as an alternative to 'schoolies' week. The aim of this program is to make connections with the Indigenous Community at Xavier College on Bathurst Island.

Bathurst Island is approximately 80kms off the coast of Darwin. The community on Bathurst Island has a strong Catholic Identity which dates back to the missionary activity of Bishop Gsell, the first bishop of Darwin, over 100 years ago. During the last century a number of religious orders have worked on the Island including the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, the Christian Brothers and the Marist Brothers.

Our Year 12 students are involved in a number of community projects with students from Xavier College. The trip has now established a relationship between the two schools which will flourish in years to come.
