What great advice for all of us. Whether in our families, school or work communities or society in general, we humans have a powerful need to live together, yet at the same time we (some of us at least) can drive each other crazy.
In this past week we have celebrated the feasts of two of our Nazareth patrons – St Dominic and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Separated by nationality and language not to mention about 750 years yet they share something extraordinary and powerful; a deep and personal encounter with God. Not only did they discover who God called them to be, they wholeheartedly embraced that calling. Interestingly, the lives work of both Dominic and Mary led to the development of Catholic education in Australia and with that the emergence of Nazareth Catholic College. In both cases, their mission was at least partly directed to overcoming the blindness of ignorance to replace it with an education that would enable people to learn more about themselves and the world around them.
The purpose of celebrating their feast days is not merely to give thanks for the legacy they have bequeathed to us, even though that is important, this annual celebration invites us to consider what was at the heart of their mission. Where did they get the energy, courage and vision from? Where did they find the reserves to persist when it seemed the world was against them? The answer for both St Dominic and St Mary was their personal experience of God’s love for the world.
As Christians, it is our belief that every human being is created unique and in the image of an infinitely loving God that shapes our world view. Taking a moment to celebrate feast days and to get to know the stories of people like our patrons helps us discover something more about who we are and who we are called to be.
May this realisation help us love a little more deeply and bear with each our a little more patiently and charitably.

Community | Stronger Families: A Positive Parenting Conference
Catholic School Parents SA is hosting a one-day conference for parents and carers, featuring speakers like Dr Justin Coulson, Wayne Holdsworth and Madhavi Nawana Parker.
Gain practical tools for:

- Supporting emotional wellbeing
- Helping children and teens respond to friendship difficulties and bullying.

Community | Calling All Music Old Scholars (2016-2025)
As part of our 2026 Nazareth Cabaret, we're turning back the clock with our theme: Back to Twenty Sixteen
We're inviting former students who were involved in the Nazareth Music Department between 2016 and 2025 to return and join a special Old Scholars Choir performance.
Together, we'll perform "When We Were Young" by Adele, a fitting choice as the song was released in 2016.
Whether you sang in choir, performed in ensembles, musicals, concerts, liturgies, or other music activities during your time at Nazareth, we'd love to welcome you back to be part of this special moment. It will be an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, celebrate shared memories, and be part of a wonderful evening of music.
If you'd like to be involved, please fill out this Nazareth Old Scholars Cabaret Item Expression of Interest Form. You will need a working with children check to be involved, but we will assist you in getting one if you don't already have one. We can't wait to sing with you again!

R-12 | Pupil Free Day Reminder - Week 6
A reminder for all ECC & R-12 families, that Friday 28 August (Week 6, Term 3) the Early Childhood Centre and R-12 College will be CLOSED for our annual Staff Reflection Day. Please ensure you have made alternative care arrangements for your family.
Our annual Staff Reflection Day is an important opportunity for Nazareth employees from all career disciplines to set aside their usual duties and immerse themselves in the essence of Catholic Social Teaching. The closure of our ECC and College services enables a rare occasion for all 350+ staff members to gather together, learn and reflect on shared values and beliefs.

R-12 | Volunteer Call Out: Support Our Music Program
Join Our Community of Volunteers
At Nazareth, we value the many ways our families and friends contribute to the life of the College. We understand that everyone has different commitments, so we're creating a flexible volunteer database for those who may be available to help on a one-off or occasional basis throughout the year.
There is no expectation of ongoing involvement, simply opportunities to lend a hand when it suits you. Whether you can help once or several times each year, your support makes a meaningful difference to our students and programs.
R - 6 | Learning Conversations
Bookings are now open for Learning Conversations for all R- 6 students at the Findon Campus.
Learning Conversations form an important part of your child’s education and provide the opportunity to formally meet with your child’s class teacher/s to discuss your child’s learning and well-being. It is an expectation that each family engage in this process, and it is strongly recommended that your child attend so that they can contribute to the conversation and share their goals for their learning.
Learning Conversations will take place across Weeks 6 – 8, with the majority of the conversations occurring in Week 7, and Tuesday 1 September 2026, being a late-night option.
Booking your Learning Conversation
Each class teacher has nominated the times they are available, and the online booking system, ‘School Interviews’ will allow you to manage your bookings. In the majority of cases, where a class has more than one teacher, the Learning Conversation will be with both teachers.
To enable staff to adequately prepare for your child’s Learning Conversation, bookings will close on Thursday 20 August. Should you need to make a time after this date, please contact your child’s class teacher/s.

R-6 | Joe Szakacs MP Visiting Findon Tomorrow
We would like to inform families that Joe Szakacs MP, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, will be visiting our Findon Campus tomorrow morning.
As part of the visit, photographs will be taken at approximately 8:40am on the corner of Findon Road and Crittenden Road. Students and families arriving at school during this time may be captured in the background of photographs. You are under no obligation to be part of the photo and are welcome to decline it.
We are sharing this information, so families are aware of the activity taking place around the campus entrance tomorrow morning. Staff will be on hand to assist with the normal flow of arrivals.

R-6 | After School OSHC Processes
To support a smooth and safe transition to After School OSHC each day, families are reminded of the following procedures:
- OSHC staff will email class teachers with a list of students attending After School OSHC.
- Mid-Year Reception, Reception and Year 1 students will be collected directly from their classrooms by an OSHC educator and escorted to the OSHC room.
These processes help ensure students are accounted for and arrive safely at OSHC at the end of the school day. If you have any questions regarding OSHC arrangements, please contact the OSHC team.
R-6 | Extend OSHC
R-6 | Winter Uniform Reminder
As we move through the winter months, we have noticed a need to remind families of our school uniform expectations. We appreciate your support in ensuring students present themselves with pride and uphold our school standards.
Please note the following winter uniform requirements:
- Skirts and pinafores must be no shorter than just below the knee.
- Shirts must be tucked in
- An elasticated school tie is to be worn by all students in Years 3-6.
- The Year 6 jumper must be worn with the full and correct school uniform underneath.
- The Year 6 jumper is not to be worn to the Graduation Mass. Students are expected to wear the full formal school uniform for this occasion.
Please be aware that breaches of the school uniform policy may result in:
- A SEQTA notification being sent home.
- Removal from class until the matter is addressed.
- Community service or attendance in the Reflection Room.
- A meeting being arranged with parents/caregivers.
Thank you for your continued support in maintaining our high standards and fostering a sense of pride and belonging within our school community.
R-6 | Kiss and Drop Zone Changes
Families are advised that there has been a change to the Kiss and Drop parking zone at the front of the school (near OSHC). Outside of designated Kiss and Drop times, the area will operate as a Loading Zone. We kindly ask all families to observe the updated signage and parking conditions to help ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic around the school.
R-6 | Assembly Hosted by Reception - Tomorrow
Week 4 | Friday 14 August, 2:15pm
MacKillop Hall, Findon Campus
On Friday 14 August (Week 4), we will have an R-6 Assembly at 2:15pm in the MacKillop Hall, hosted by the Reception Neighbourhood. Entry for families will be through the Cafe gate from 2:10pm. All parents/family members are warmly welcome to attend.
We ask that parents who are wanting to pick their child up during the assembly time (2:10pm onwards) to please let Student Services know by 1:30pm on the day.
3S | Host Parish Mass - Tomorrow
Families are warmly invited to attend the Parish Mass on Friday 14 August (Week 4) at 9:15am in the OLM Church at Findon, where students of class 3S will be hosting the Mass, taking on various roles and leading the singing.
We invite you to join together for a coffee or drink after Mass in the Café. Thank you for respecting our sacred space and saving your coffee for before or after Mass.
For Term 3, families are invited to consider donating items to Fred’s Van when attending this Mass. Fred’s Van Meal Service provides hot, nutritious meals, social support, toiletries, and winter essentials for those experiencing poverty and/or homelessness. If you’re able, please consider donating one of the following items: good quality blankets, new men’s socks and underwear, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes and toothpaste, gloves, beanies, Milo, coffee, pasta, and canned soup. Donations can be placed in the box outside the parish as you arrive.
Year 4 | 2026 Religious Literacy Assessment Tool (ReLAT)
Year 4 students will participate in the Religious Education Assessment, which is completed by all Year 4 students in South Australian Catholic schools.
This annual assessment has been developed by the Catholic Education Office and will take place during Term 3, Week 9, from Monday 14 September to Friday 18 September.

7-9 | Student Leader Fundraising BBQ
Our Year 9 student leaders are running a series of fundraising BBQs to support Our Lady of La Vang, a Catholic school for students with intellectual disabilities and complex care needs. Bacon and egg sandwiches (with a vegetarian option) and juice will be available for purchase from 7:45am in the Emmaus Courtyard on the following dates:
- Friday 14 August (Week 4)
- Thursday 27 August (Week 6)
Bacon and egg rolls: $5 | Juice: $2
All staff and students are welcome to attend - come along and support!
7-12 | Grade Point Average - Academic Recognition System
Nazareth Catholic College has introduced the Grade Point Average (GPA) Academic Recognition System across Years 7-12. This new approach aims to provide a clear, consistent, and transparent method of recognising academic achievement for students across middle and senior years.
The new framework will introduce GPA with Merit, GPA with Excellence, and GPA Improvement Awards, with improvement recognised through demonstrated growth between semesters.

7-12 | Book Week Song Lyrics Competition
As part of our Book Week 2026 celebrations, students are invited to enter our Song Lyrics Competition, inspired by this year's theme, Symphony of Stories. Students are challenged to write an original song featuring 2 to 3 verses and include the phrase"Symphony of Stories" at least once.
Entries close at 4.00pm on Wednesday 19 August and can be submitted at the library desk or emailed to [email protected]. All entries will be displayed in the Veritas Centre Library, with winners announced at the end of Book Week on Thursday 27 August.
We encourage students to get creative, tell a story through song, and celebrate the joy of reading and imagination. Let your lyrics sing and become part of our Book Week 2026 celebrations!

Intercol 2026 – Week 5
Our annual Intercol competition against Cabra Dominican College is happening in Week 5, with fixtures held across both Nazareth and Cabra campuses.
As one of the highlights of our sporting calendar, Intercol is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the talent, teamwork and school spirit of our students. It is more than a series of games, it is a community event that brings students, staff, families and old scholars together in support of our College.
We encourage students and families to come along, wear their Nazareth colours and support our teams throughout the week. Please use the link provided to view the full fixture and game schedule.

Years 10 & 11 | 2027 Subject Selection
Our subject selection process is designed to help students reflect on their interests, explore future pathways, and make informed choices through guided curriculum discussions. This journey began last term with our Subject Selection and Pathways Day, along with the Careers Expo, and will continue over the coming weeks through various supports and activities.
During Mentor Group sessions, students will explore pathway options and have opportunities to speak with their teachers and Learning Area Leaders about subject choices. For those considering Tertiary Studies, we would also encourage them to attend University Open Days, many of which will begin over the coming weeks – these are valuable opportunities to explore potential areas of interest. Please refer to individual university websites for further details.
Future Pathways Guide Book
To support your family in this process, we’ve created a Future Pathways Guide Book, available online. This guide includes everything you need to know about subject selection, timelines, and the SACE structure.
We also encourage you to watch this Video Presentation which provides a helpful overview of the SACE, Nazareth subject offerings, VET pathways, ATARs and how students can personalise their senior learning journey.
Subject Selection Q&A Session – Optional
We invite Year 10 & 11 parents/caregivers to attend an optional online Q&A session via Microsoft Teams, designed to support you and your young person in navigating subject selection, SACE, VET, and future pathways.
This session complements the information in the video and is not intended to introduce new content. We strongly recommend all families – especially those of Year 10 students new to SACE – to watch this Video Presentation ahead of time.
