Recently, four of our students joined Pivot Training for the launch of their new Mini Woolies facility in Somerton Park. Mini Woolies is a purpose-built, accessible training space that mirrors a real Woolworths supermarket, giving young people with disabilities the chance to build genuine, job-ready skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Our students had the opportunity to practise everyday skills such as literacy, numeracy, communication and customer service, while gaining a clearer sense of what working in retail looks and feels like. This supports them to grow their confidence and independence as they prepare for future community and workplace experiences.
Mini Woolies helps young people learn point-of-sale systems, stock handling, and customer interaction at a pace that works for them.
“I enjoyed this experience because I got to try new things like serving customers and using the checkout. It made me feel proud of myself,” said participating student Chiara Caristo (Year 11). “I would encourage other students to do it too!” she added.
Nazareth is grateful for this partnership with Pivot Training and the Woolworths Group.
“We’re proud of the way our students embraced this real-world experience,” said Adele Broster, Leader of Pathways and Partnerships.
“This really connects to our belief in pathways for all, so that students are able to explore the range of opportunities available to them, including combinations of SACE subjects, VET qualifications and community outreach experiences, leading to pathways to University, industry, apprenticeships, further training and employment”, added Adele.
