Cycling Sucesses

Students Tayte Ryan (Year 12), Riegan Stanton (Year 11) and Zach Bryant (Year 10) are celebrating success on the track after the Cycling State Championships last weekend.

Tayte and Riegan are now both gearing up to compete at the Auscycling Track Nationals in March.

Tayte’s state competition successes include winning two Gold Medals in the 1000m Time Trail and Sprint as well as winning a Silver Medal in the Kiern.

Zach placed fourth in the Junior race and Riegan was awarded Bronze in the Under 17’s Time Trial.

Riegan is no newbie to the National competition, after competing in the 2022 Auscycling Junior National Track Championships, and winning Bronze in the Team Pursuit.

“I have been cycling since I was four and have been competing since then. I have been selected for Nationals for four years,” shared Riegan.

“I’m feeling really excited for Nationals as last year was lots of fun,” she said.

Riegan hopes to continue cycling and follow her brother’s footsteps onto the global stage. Dylan Stanton (2021 Graduate) is an Under 19 Junior World Champion who won Gold in the Men’s Team Sprint in August 2022. Dylan will represent South Australia again this year at the ‘TrackNats’ in the Elite Mens category.

Tayte shares the Stantons’ same passion for the sport.

“I started cycling 3 years ago and have been competing for 2 years,” said Tayte.

“I brought a bike and started racing trains that went up and down the train line, which is when my love for cycling started,” he said.

Tayte then joined Port Adelaide Cycling Club and was training at the Adelaide Superdrome. He has since competed in the State Championships in 2020, and 2021, as well as the 2022 AusCycling Junior National Track Championships in Brisbane last year, where he represented the South Australian Under 17’s team. He won three Silver Medals in the Sprint, Team Sprint and Time Trail.

Tayte is hoping to continue his success in the 2023 Auscycling Track Nationals and is aspiring to be selected to compete in the Junior World Championships if he is successful in the Nationals.

“I’m feeling really good going to Nationals and am now at the stage where I’m trying to move from the get fit phase and training to get to the get strong phase, I’m fresh and ready to compete,” says Tayte.

Tayte’s future goal is to compete in the Olympics.

We wish Tayte, Riegan and Dylan every success in the upcoming weeks for the 2023 Auscycling Track Nationals in Brisbane.

Congratulations also once again to Zach Bryant for outstanding results in the State competition.
